The Jamia has a constitution that is registered under the Society Act, according to which all administrative and educational affairs of the Jamia are carried out. As per the constitution, there is an Advisory Committee consisting of eighteen members. Constitutionally, the Advisory Committee is the governing body. This Committee is authorized to make decisions on all matters related to the Jamia, and its decisions are binding and enforceable.
The constitution also has the provisions allowing special invitees along with the committee members. According to the constitution, the Advisory Committee elects a President to head the committee and a Manager to oversee financial affairs. For internal management of the Jamia, the Advisory Committee appoints a Rector who also serves as the secretary of the Committee. A dignified, motivated, and religiously inclined personality is selected as the Rector. Thus far, three personalities have been elected to this important position in Jamia's notable 100-year history.
It is indeed a matter of pride for the supporters and sympathizers of the Jamia that, even in the ever-changing and tumultuous times when moral values are greatly affected by societal turbulence and deviations, the Jamia continues to shine. In a world where great scholarly and religious personalities are becoming scarce, the Jamia has been consistently blessed with devout and esteemed figures in leadership positions throughout its history, whose immense knowledge, ethical conduct, religious devotion, and administrative competence have influenced and inspired thousands, if not millions, of Muslims.
This is the reason why every step of the Jamia's journey in these hundred years has been a leap towards progress. Each passing year of the Jamia's existence has been better than the previous one. First of all, in 1344 AH (1925 AD), Hazrat Abdur Rahim Saheb considered Hazrat Maulana Hashmat Ali Saheb DB for this position and then chose him and entrusted him with the leadership of the Jamia. The determination, perseverance, and administrative competence of Hazrat Maulana, along with his leadership, propelled the Jamia to the top position regarding education and infrastructure.
At the time when the Hazrat Maulana stepped into the Jamia, its total assets consisted of one teacher, five or six local and non-local students, and in terms of infrastructure, the Jamia was merely the name of three rooms. When he, left the Jamia due to certain reasons, in 1375 AH, the ground floor of the Jamia's old building had already been completed, which comprised 32 rooms, a mosque, and the sehdaris (halls having three doors each) on three sides. In terms of educational progress, the Jamia had achieved remarkably; it had arranged for the classes, from KG to HidayaAwwalain and MukhtasarulMa'aani.
During the time of his administration, the Jamia teachers provided him with their valuable cooperation in various capacities. Among them Hazrat Maulana Ahmad HasanSahebDeobandi, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad AsgarSaheb, the head of the Jamia teachers, Maulana Muhammad HanifSaheb, respected Hafiz Abdul MajeedSaheb, and Hafiz RasheedSaheb, may Allah have mercy on them, are at the top.
In the month of DhulQa'dah 1375 AH, due to certain reasons, the Chief Rector, Hazrat Maulana Hushmat Ali Saheb, tendered his resignation. Therefore, the search for a suitable replacement for this esteemed position began. Upon the recommendation of the administrators, the charge of the administration of the Jamia was temporarily entrusted to the head of the Jamia teachers, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad AsgarSaheb, may Allah illuminate his resting place, despite his strong reluctance. This arrangement continued until DhulHijjah 1376 AH.
During this period of turmoil and division, when the Jamia faced significant challenges to its survival, it was only through the dedicated efforts of the Hazrat, may Allah have mercy on him, that not only the preservation of the Jamia but also the improvement of its education and administration became possible. On one hand, the administration of the Jamia was his responsibility, and on the other hand, he actively participated in all the responsibilities related to education.
During this time, the office bearers of the Jamia made continuous efforts to secure his permanent appointment as the Chief Rector. However, as the Maulana would abstain from posts, they could not obtain Maulana's consent for it. Finally, as the destiny had it, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Umar Saheb was selected for and then appointed on the esteemed position of Chief Rector.
Maulana's tenure as the Chief Rector was undoubtedly a period of progress and development for the Jamia. Under Maulana's leadership, the Jamia acquired the status of a magnificent fortress in terms of infrastructure. The construction of the Darul Hadith and classrooms above the main gate of the Jamia is a testament to Maulana's accomplishments during his tenure. The Jamia also made significant strides in terms of educational progress during his time. It was the result of Maulana's noble efforts that the Advisory Committee of the Jamia granted permission for the teaching of Hadith Sharif, marking the beginning of a gradual journey towards its destination. Initially, the Jamia focused on teaching important books of Hadith and Tafsir, such as Mishkat Sharif and Jalalain Sharif, for many years. In the meantime, in 1389 AH, circumstances took a turn, and at the persistent request of Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Umar Saheb, who expressed his desire to move from the administration department to the education department, the former Chief Rector Hazrat Maulana Hushmat Ali Saheb was once again entrusted with the responsibility of the Chief Rector. Despite his advance age, Hazrat accepted it on the strong insistence of the Advisory Committee.
The Hazrat Maulana diligently fulfilled his responsibilities and continued to excel in his role. However, due to his advanced age and weakness, Hazrat Maulana resigned from the position of Chief Rector in 1396 AH. Even during this tenure, Hazrat Maulana remained a source of pride for the Jamia and a cause of joy for the Jamia community. During this period, besides the renovation of the eastern upper section of the old campus, the construction of a new hostel for students was initiated. There were improvements in the educational system, and the Jamia made significant financial progress.
Now again, the search for a suitable candidate for the esteemed position of Chief Rector was started by the Jamia authorities. Firstly, the attention turned towards Maulana Muhammad AsgarSaheb for the position, but due to his continuous refusal, a draw of lots was conducted, and the name of Hazrat Maulana Muhammad AkhtarSaheb (current Chief Rector) was selected. At present, Hazrat Maulana AkhtarSaheb has been fully engaged with all his capabilities in the development and progress of the Jamia. Alhamdulillah, the Jamia is advancing towards its goals due to the sincere efforts and dedicated struggles of Hazrat Maulana AkhtarSaheb DB.
During Maulana's forty-year tenure, on one hand the Jamia achieved its goal with the implementation of Hadith studies at the beginning of the fifteenth century Hijri, and on the other many other important educational and administrative departments were also established, including the Department of Islamic Jurisprudence, Department of Arabic Literature, Department of Fatwa, and Department of Publishing and Media. There was also a significant increase in the number of students and faculty members.
In 1396 AH, the number of students was limited to around 300-400, and the staff, including teachers and other employees, was around two dozen. Today, the Jamia is accommodating around 1,800 students, while the number of faculty and staff is more than 80. In 1396 AH, the Jamia's budget was approximately 1.5 lakh rupees, but now it has reached three crore rupees. In terms of infrastructure, the Jamia has also made significant progress over the past forty years.
During the tenure of the Maulana, several significant construction projects were accomplished. These include the completion of the two-storey building of Dar-e Jadeed, the reconstruction of sehdaris of the mosque, the construction of Darul Ifta and classrooms for Ifta students on the eastern side of the mosque, the construction of the second floor of the mosque, and most notably, the construction of Darul Quran. Darul Qur’an is a spacious building comprising forty classrooms and a large hall. Alhamdulillah, with the completion of Darul Qur’an, it has become possible for the Jamia to separate student accommodations from the classrooms. This building is in its final stages of completion, and it is expected that education will commence there from the next academic year.
Last year, the foundation stone of a Darul Hadith complex was also laid, which includes a spacious and extensive Darul Hadith along with more than a dozen classrooms for Aalimiyyah. May Allah accept this important and blessed construction and provide the means for its completion. Ameen! The estimated cost for this complex is around three crore rupees.
The previous noble ancestors of the Jamia kept themselves spiritually connected to Allah, possessed strong faith, followed the example of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), and actively served the community. This commitment was acknowledged in every era by insightful scholars and esteemed spiritual leaders. The present servants of the Jamia also strive to uphold the blessed legacy of their great predecessors. In brief, their motto can be described as "Timely service to the religion”.
Even when there was no other means of Islamic education and propagation in the land of RedhiTajpura, this was still the guiding principle of the Jamia. Alhamdulillah, this remains the same today, and by the grace of Allah Almighty, it will continue to be so in the future. The prominent feature of this institution has been the teaching and propagation of the Noble Qur’an. Its extensive history is intertwined with boundless love for this Divine Book. May Allah elevate the ranks of those sacred predecessors who have taught us this invaluable lesson. Ameen!
