The Jamia was established under the name of "Madrasa Taleemul Qur'an" in 1336 Hijri (1918 AD) by Hazrat Maulana Munshi Ali Muhammad SahebPandolvi (ra). The Maulana Saheb was a dedicated Aalim and had shouldered the responsibility of teaching and preaching at various places. When he was in the last years of his life, the desire of establishing a Madrasa arose in his heart. It was the time when Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Yusuf Saheb (ra) had already been trying for the same in Redhi.
After graduating from Darul Uloom Deoband in 1327 Hijri (1909 AD), the late Maulana first put forward his idea before the local people of Redhi. And then with some esteemed individuals, he went to Raipur to seek the advice of Hazrat Maulana Shah Abdur Rahim Saheb's (ra).
Hazrat Raipuri (ra) supported Maulana's idea and prayed for its success. Unfortunately, though, due to general ignorance and lack of vision in the community, the idea did not meet with success. After this setback, Maulana Saheb (ra) became engaged in some responsibilities and activities related to farming and other things. Nevertheless, he continued to harbor the same concern, and persistently tried to persuade people towards the idea.
In the meanwhile, Maulana Munshi Ali Muhammad Saheb also arrived, harbouring the same desire. Having taken the initial steps, he motivated the people of Redhi and Tajpura to embrace Maulana Muhammad Yusuf Saheb's noble idea and put it into practical implementation as soon as possible.
After consulting with others, Maulana Ali Muhammad Saheb selected a location towards the north of the EidgahRedhi Muhyuddin, where he arranged for an educational setup for children under the open sky. And he himself started teaching the children of both the villages.
For some time, this educational process continued under the shade of trees in the open sky. Later, a thatch was built with the support of the villagers. The educational activities continued under the thatch for few more days until one day also thatch caught fire.
Afterwards, the proposal to set up a new thatch again came forward, but at the request of some well-wishers, the people of the village decided that a solid and well-established structure ought to be arranged for the Madrasa.
For this, a generous person, named Mubarak Ali, took the initiative and donated approximately seven bighas of land for the construction of the madrasa. On this land, three solid rooms were built in the southern direction, which still exist as the initial symbol of the madrasa.
Afterwards, in the month of RabiulAwwal 1337 Hijri (1919 AD), the Madrasa was shifted to this building, and that's where the educational journey began. This year marks the first year of the Madrasa's existence at its new location.
The kitchen system of the Madrasa was started to provide meals for the children and teachers residing in it, and this arrangement continued for about four years. Then due to some adverse circumstances and internal conflicts in the village, the noble pursuit of education became a victim of harmful influences. Nevertheless, by the grace of the Almighty, theunwanted situation was short-lived and soon came to an end.
Then in a remarkable twist of fate, it was witnessed that some time ago, those who were responsible for the closure of the Madrasa they themselves approached Hazrat Deputy Abdur Rahim Saheb. They humbly requested him to take the Madrasa Taleemul Qur'an under his guardianship and bless it with a new revival. Responding to the recommendation of Hazrat Maulana IlyasSaheb (ra), the respected Deputy Saheb graciously accepted their plea. This momentous event took place during the visit of both great personalities - Hazrat Deputy Abdur Rahim Saheb and the founder of the TablighiJamaat Hazrat Maulana Muhammad IlyasSaheb (ra) - to Redhi, with the common mission of reforming the community and spreading the teachings of Islam.
As soon as Hazrat Deputy Sahebtook the charge of the Madrasa, Allah blessed his efforts, and in a span of two years, significant progress was made in educational and teaching activities. He established a proper system and framework by setting rules and regulations. Deputy Saheb was initially entrusted with the responsibility of leading and managing it. However, he now felt the need for another dedicated and steadfast individual who could lead this fledgling institution towards further development and advancement.
The people of Redhi and Tajpura felt a deep sense of relief after handing over this Jamia to the devoted and sincere personality of Hazrat Deputy Abdur Rahim Saheb.
On the other hand, Hazrat Haji Saheb (ra) started searching for a person who could take on the responsibility of managing and overseeing this educational institution at all times and help Hazrat Haji Saheb in fulfilling the educational and administrative needs of the Jamia.
Subsequently, by the divine mercy, Hazrat Haji Saheb (ra) found a person who, although was associated with the Darul Uloom Deoband as a student at that time, had demonstrated his capabilities in public and community services under the guidance of the honorable Deputy Saheb.
And this was the personality of Hazrat Maulana Hashmat Ali Saheb (ra), a Khalifa of Hazrat Maulana Muhammad As'adSahebMadani (ra). As advised by eminent scholars and esteemed spiritual leaders, Hazrat Haji Saheb invited Hazrat Maulana Hashmat Ali Saheb (ra), to take charge of the administration of the Jamia.
Maulana Hashmat Ali Saheb, not only did he accept this invitation, but also proved his dutifulness and obedience, and transformed this young and small Maktab (primary Islamic school) into a grand and distinguished Jamia through his sincere efforts, which not only surpassed its contemporaries in its educational traditions but also started the traditions that the predecessors would take pride in.
Today, this Jamia of yours enjoys exemplary status, not only in India but also internationally, for educational improvement. And structurally, this Jamia - which started with thatched houses - has now become a fortress.
So it is as if the patronage of Hazrat Abdur Rahim Saheb and the guidance of Hazrat Maulana Hashmat Ali Saheb (ra) were two major factors that got his Jamia the mercy of Allah. And the supplications of the righteous scholars, which they had made in the court of the Almighty for the survival and progress of the Jamia, have been granted with the honour of acceptance. All praise be to Allah.
Throughout history, we have seen numerous instances of determination, bravery, and ambition. However, it was only in a handful of instances that grand and high-level objectives were set without first making financial arrangements for the same.
It is our daily observation that the establishment of an ordinary institution or an organization compels the founders to make arrangements for its financial needs in advance, but when laying the foundation of this grand Jamia, the great elders of the community were not concerned about how this institution would manage its daily expenses and expenditures.
The reality is that those who always rely on the Almighty the Sustainer, Allah the Provider grants them independence from reliance on mere means and resources. The enlightened manifestation of this trust and contentment of the elders still shines brightly in the hearts of the present office bearers of the Jamia, even after a century has passed.
Whenever the Jamia was surrounded by difficulties and challenges, this shining beacon of trust and contentment became the center of hope for the caretakers of the Jamia, and it emerged as a radiant sun of hope, dispelling the darkness of uncertainty. At times, situations arose when meeting the financial needs seemed tough, but the divine support intervened, and within moments, all the expenses were taken care of.
The year 1336 AH was the first year of the Jamia's existence, in which the foundation of the Jamia was laid. In that year, the Jamia's budget was even less than one hundred rupees, which, too, was made possible through the sincere contributions, dedication and sacrifices of Allah's righteous and compassionate servants. And today, after a hundred years, the annual expenses of this enormous international institution are around three crore rupees.
And yet, there is no permanent source of income. Instead, all the expenditures are met solely through the sincere contributions of ordinary people who generously donate for this noble cause.
In 1387 AH, when the Jamia was completing fifty years of its establishment and at that time, due to the sincerity of the honourable founders and the efforts of the other community organisers, this institution had transformed from a small Madrasa into a comprehensive Jamia encompassing educational, developmental, and administrative departments, a question arose before the Jamia's advisory committee: whether to retain the name of the Madrasa or to rename it as a Jamia to reflect its all-encompassing expansion.
On one hand, there was the fifty-year-old name under which the Madrasa had relentlessly rendered fifty years of blessed educational and religious services. On the other hand, there were the requirements of its all-round development and expansion.
However, after a lot of consideration, discussion and deliberation, a blessed decision was made to change the name of the Madrasa. It was renamed 'Jamia Islamia'. This change of the name - driven by a spirit of goodness - has, Alhamdulillah, been accepted by Allah Almighty. Today, the institution, rendering its services in the fields of religion, education, moral upbringing and social reform, can be rightfully described as an esteemed institution having the qualities of a Jamia in every aspect, by the grace of Allah.
